Scrap Percussion
There’s
nothing like making a really big sound and not having to worry
about breaking the instruments.
Scrap
percussion workshops offer a chance for the young people to really
let rip and express themselves through music. It can be a chance
for them to work together and create exciting rhythms, making
creative use of household objects such as buckets and washing
machine drums!
There
will be a chance for
the young people to make and decorate their own drums and shakers,
and then use them to make a huge sound. It can be a good way to
introduce rhythm to larger groups of children and can encourage
them to use their own imaginations to create their own instruments.
Above all, it’s great fun! One recent workshop by Musical
Works musicians involved 500 children, all playing at the same
time.
The
Musical Works can provide all the equipment, including washing
machine drums, buckets, water butts, film canisters, gravel/chickpeas/lentils
(for shakers), tins, plastic tubing, tin cans, plastic bottles
and more, although the young people will be encouraged to find
their own materials.
