The Electro Works Project offer an exciting opportunity to refurbish a Grade II listed building, to safeguard a number of precious metal enterprises and to establish a significant cluster of music industry enterprises which will have a major impact on Sheffield and in particular on the local community.

This executive summary offers a project outline and a summary of the key issues and conclusions arising from recent, extensive consultancy and feasibility reports commissioned by the Development Team during 2002.

The Project Team comprises Mark Mercer, Managing Director, G2 Studios Limited; Alan Deadman, Promoter, JuJu Club & Headcharge; Don Peace, Managing Director, Sterling Stag Cutlery Limited and the current owner of Stag Works; Anthony Brownlow, Director, Hawk Estates, the current owners of Portland Works and Richard Motley, Head of Development, Cultural Industries Quarter (CIQ) Agency, Sheffield.

The consultancy reports were carried out by HLM Architects, Ove Arup Partners International Ltd, Monaghanis, and Matthew Conduit and Paul Skelton of Creative Industries Partnerships (CIP). Full copies of these reports are available on request.

The key reports examined:

  • The physical regeneration of Stag Works
  • The physical regeneration of Portland Works
  • The managed workspace core business plan for refurbishment of Stag Works
  • The key creative industries and economic context of the Project

These studies were jointly funded by Hawk Estates (owners of neighbouring Portland Works) and the South Sheffield Peoples and Communities Development Fund (South Sheffield Partnership).

The project is titled 'Electro Works' as the Development Team propose to change the name of the building from 'Stag Works' following development. The company being established to administer the whole project is called 'Electro Works Development Trust'.
